Find Out How Fertile You Are

The Zita West Fertility MOT

More and more women these days are sensibly choosing to check out how fertile they are, or are likely to be in the future, well before they actually want to get pregnant, simply by taking one our Fertility MOT's.

  • You may want to plan ahead. The MOT can help you to decide whether to try for a baby straight away, or if it’s OK to leave it till later

  • You may be actively thinking about getting pregnant in the near future, but aren’t sure whether your fertility is where it needs to be

  • You may have been trying to conceive for a while, but without success

  • You may be thinking about having IVF
Whatever your individual circumstances, the Zita West Fertility MOT has been specially developed to help you get a better understanding of how easy, or otherwise, it may be for you to get pregnant, including your likely responsiveness to IVF. It has been designed to provide you with a unique opportunity to consider the most important aspects of your reproductive health, medical history and lifestyle and how they can impact on your chances of conceiving successfully.

How it works
The Zita West Fertility MOT consists of a comprehensive AMH blood-test, which we combine with your answers to a brief Fertility Questionnaire, followed by a 30 minute consultation with a Zita West Consultant Midwife/Fertility Nurse, either by ‘phone or in person. During the consultation we will discuss the results of your tests and provide you with a predictive overview of your fertility status, as well as guidance on next steps.

The key issues considered in a Fertility Health MOT are:

o Age: a woman’s age is most significant. Older women may require more urgent referral
o Anticipated time before trying to conceive
o Length of time trying to conceive (if already started)
o Any existing medical conditions, or prescribed medication
o Past history of abdominal or pelvic surgery
o Occupation and work stress including exhausting travel schedules
o Gynaecological history and any known problems such as endometriosis or polycystic ovaries.
o Menstrual history and regularity of periods
o Current contraception or time since stopping contraception
o Lifestyle - including the effects of alcohol, smoking, caffeine, recreational drugs
o Weight, body mass index and body fat percentage
o Other life stresses – such as pressures of elderly parents or ex-partners.
The Fertility MOT also includes discussion about the relevance of:

o A blood test to check for rubella (German measles) antibodies
o Cervical smear
o Fertility infection screen
o Blood pressure and urine test
o The importance of folic acid to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
o Good nutrition to optimise the health of a future baby.
