Manual Lymphatic Drainage

We use this treatment as part of our co-ordinated nutrition and detox plans, as well as in its own right. It can be of benefit at every stage of reproduction. It can be used to help prepare the body for conception, to help support IVF treatment, and in between IVF treatments and after a miscarriage. It's also of value during pregnancy and post-natally, most particularly because it is deeply relaxing and helpful for stress-relief and sleep quality.

By its name, it may sound like Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) means you are about to have the whole of your lymphatic system drained away, but it is actually a very gentle form of massage aimed at moving the lymph under the skin. The lymphatic system is an important part of our immune system and is also designed to assist in the removal of waste products from the cells of the body. Unlike the circulation of the blood, there is no pump (the heart); instead the lymphatic system has to rely on muscular movement to assist circulation. The system can become very sluggish and ineffectual, not least because of our sedentary lifestyles and high-sodium diets. A sluggish lymphatic system means that this system of waste disposal is compromised, and the body suffers from a build-up of stagnant lymph.

The lymphatic system also plays a key role in the circulation of hormones. If it is not functioning well, this can delay the circulation of fertility hormones. Lymphatic stasis (which means there is little movement) can also affect the feed-back system of fertility hormones, and as a woman's fertility cycle relies on this feedback system working effectively, problems can arise. For example, it is the peak oestrogen level that stimulates the production of luteinizing hormone (LH), which in turn stimulates the release of an egg (ovulation). A good way of enhancing the effectiveness of the lymphatic system during a detox is through Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

In relation to pre-conception and fertility issues specifically, MLD can help with the following:

This is a very gentle massage. During pregnancy the treatment helps to:
Specialised Pregnancy Massage

A specialised massage that is carefully adapted to suit whichever stage your pregnancy is at. Designed to help boost your energy levels, it also helps to calm you mind and your body, as well as helping to minimise stretch marks, keeping your skin smooth and supple. Massage is wonderfully therapeutic during pregnancy, both for you and your baby; it's a great aid for relaxation, and therefore much to be recommended.

Massage can help with aches and pains and release tension that often build up in the muscles of the shoulder, neck and lower back, all of which are taking the strain of your growing abdomen. This is a full body massage using nourishibg oils and pregnancy-safe essential oils.

Pregnancy Massage with Hydrotherm

This is a profoundly relaxing and beneficial massage technique used for pregnancy. The massage is carried out while lying face up on comfortable Hydrotherm cushions filled with warm water, making it ideal during pregnancy. The cushions support the body in the natural position of the spine and the combination of the heat and massage help the mind and body to relax. Stress is also powerful barrier to conception, and massage helps to reduce the muscular tension that can exacerbate stress and promote anxiety.

This massage can help to calm the mind and body, and can be particularly helpful during pregnancy.

Post-natal Massage

Once you have had your baby a soothing post-natal massage helps to:
