Miscarriage is not uncommon; it affects around 25% of all pregnancies. Although it isn’t the same as an inability to conceive, the outcome feels the same and it can be heart-breaking, especially when you have no idea why it is happening. Too often couples are told to just “keep trying” and won’t be sent for tests until they have miscarried at least three times, sometimes more.
The Zita West "Recurrent Miscarriage Programme"
Developed with Dr Raj Rai, the leading
miscarriage specialist from Imperial College, London, the
Zita West “Recurrent
Miscarriage Programme” has been uniquely designed to help fill this gap. The programme takes a two-pronged approach to the problem, looking at important lifestyle factors, such as diet,
nutrition and
stress, as well as identifying and treating any medical causes.
Comprising the latest medical tests and screening, plus guidance on how to boost your reproductive health through management of your lifestyle and all round wellness, the programme aims to address the main factors known to influence the body’s ability to maintain a pregnancy through to term. Aimed at couples – men are just as important here as women – who have a history of one or more miscarriages after 10 weeks, and those who have miscarried at less than 10 weeks on two or more occasions, the programme takes you through a comprehensive step-by-step process to help identify the likely causes and to recommend the best way forward.
Starting with an initial consultation with one of our consultant midwives or fertility nurse, we will take a detailed look at your fertility history, based on your answers to our pre-appointment questionnaire. From this, and the results from any previous investigations you may have had, we will be able to advise whether you need to see our
miscarriage specialist, Dr Raj Rai. We will also be able to recommend ways in which you could enhance your reproductive status through improvements to such things as your diet, your lifestyle and your
stress levels, all of which can have a role to play, both positively and negatively, in maintaining your pregnancy.
