Nutrition and IVF

Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are central to the Clinic’s overall approach to boosting male and female fertility, whatever your individual situation. But if you are about to undergo IVF, it’s even more critical to get this right. Our planned nutritional approach to supporting IVF is especially comprehensive. If you are having IVF treatment with us, a nutrition and lifestyle assessment for both partners will be included as part of your package price, at no extra cost (click on "Nutrition and Lifestyle Assessment" for details of what this includes).

For most couples, this will be sufficient to get you both into the best possible nutritional shape before you start your cycle. However, if you have particular complications that need addressing, such as being overweight or underweight, PCOS, endometriosis, or if you have experienced repeatedly unsuccessful IVF, then a further follow-up consultation may be sensible for one or both of you.

If you are not having IVF with us this service is still, of course, still available to you. Please see our schedule of fees for further details.

Leaders in Immune Testing

Our Medical Director, Dr George Ndukwe, is a highly experienced immunologist who specialises in implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage. Although it’s clear that immunology as it relates to fertility treatment is still a controversial area within the medical profession, the fact that so many of our clients have been found to have immune disorders suggests that it should be taken seriously. Under Dr Ndukwe’s expert care, you can be assured that if you do have immune problems, it will be identified and treated using the latest techniques.

Nutrition and Drug Therapy

Many of our clients are understandably concerned about the impact that many of the drugs used to prepare the body for an IVF cycle may have both on their bodies generally and their nutrition specifically. Which is why all our "Nutrition for IVF" consultations also focus on the interaction of your drug regime with your diet and digestion, in order to ensure you are not depleted in vital nutrients.

Detoxification can be particularly useful for women who have been through an IVF cycle before, and we can advise on a programme that is most suitable to your individual circumstances.

Weight Management Can be Critical Too

There are other areas too where dietary guidance may help. For example, a woman’s weight before conception - either too much or too little - can be another important factor in determining her chances of success. Assisted conception is much more likely to be successful if a woman’s BMI (body mass index) is correct. We can advise you on a sensible and achievable plan for weight loss or gain which is appropriate for someone who is trying to get pregnant. If you like, this can be combined with one of our fantastic fitness assements and fitness planning sessions to help you achieve your goal (with supportive weekly phone calls!).

The Value of Seeing a Specialist

Having worked closely with many of the UK's most successful IVF clinics for many years, we are far and away the leading specialists in the whole area of IVF support. Our nutritionists see hundreds of couples a year who are looking for help in preparing for IVF and we have a unrivalled wealth of experience and data to draw on that is unavailable to nutritionists in general practice, who may see only a handful of such clients. Do be cautious in believing the promises of general practitioners who claim to be specialists in everything!
