Preparing for IVF? - Boost Your Chances

In our view, preparing properly for IVF or other assisted fertility treatments can often be more important and potentially beneficial than if you are trying for a baby naturally.

Embarking down this road can be very demanding and stressful, but we can help you make sure that you are doing everything possible to increase the likelihood of conception. Whether you choose to have your IVF treatment with us or elsewhere, we have years of experience in providing the right physical, nutritional, and emotional support, before and during the treatment, to help to off-set these stresses and strains and to enhance your overall health and well-being. We can keep you positive and in the right mind-set too. All of which can help improve your chances of success.

Your First Step?

We usually recommend that clients who are new to the clinic and who are about to start IVF, begin with an Initial Consultation with one of our midwife/fertility nurse specialists. Depending on what has already been done elsewhere, and how advanced your planning is, the session can be used to talk you through the whole IVF process, as well as to provide you and your partner with a comprehensive guide on how to get the most out of your cycle, usually by focussing on one or more of these key areas:

  • Medical - looking at what tests you may have had previously and recommending any others you many need, based on a review of your medical history
  • Nutritional and lifestyle -  we will review your diet and your nutritional status, and will provide you with an easy to use meal-plan and advice, if needed, on supplements that may also help. Nutritional blood tests may also be recommended
  • Emotional/Psychological health - we may recommend referral to one of our counsellors or hypnotherapists to explore issues, if there are any, around sex, relationships or general mental health and well-being
  • Stress reduction - this may involve a referral for acupuncture, or counselling or hypnotherapy, all of which can be used to help promote a more relaxed state of mind. We also offer our own "Manage Your Mind" programme, specifically for couples going through IVF.

Ideally, we like to see you at least three months before your IVF cycle is due to begin. However, there are still plenty of things we can do to help if the interval is shorter.
