If you have been trying to get pregnant for a while, and initial tests via your GP seem to suggest that there is nothing glaringly wrong with your reproductive health, there is often little that the NHS will suggest you do, other than to just keep trying. If months or years follow, still with no success, most couples assume that there is no alternative open to them but to go for assisted fertility treatment of some kind, and most usually IVF.
Which is a great shame, though perfectly understandable. Because in our experience, many couples rush into having assisted fertility treatments, and particularly IVF, prematurely, when a proper programme of tests and investigations and/or some fertility coaching may well have enabled them to conceive naturally.
Which is why, if you are not entirely sure about what the most sensible next step might be, a consultation with one of midwife/fertility nurse specialists (Zita West, Jane Kinght or Anita O'Neill) can often be so worthwhile. All of them are experts in fertility care and they each have over 25 years' experience in the field.
Based on your answers to our uniquely comprehensive fertility questionnaire, plus their years of experience in working with thousands of couples in similar circumstances to your own, they can look to identify even the smallest areas of potential weakness in you or your partner's fertility status and, if they can, propose a step by step action plan as to how these might be addressed.
For some this might involve additional tests or screens to help confirm or remove potential underlying problem areas in the equation, many of which, though critically important, can so easily get overlooked. For details of some of the tests we offer click here on Fertility MOT's, Gynaecological Investigations, Male Fertility Assessments, Sexual Infections or Ultrasound Scanning.
For others it may simply require a planned approach to modifying aspects of your diet, work or lifestyle (such as alcohol, smoking or stress) or addressing aspects of your weight or fitness, or your emotional or psychological health.
You might be surprised at how many couples, who arrive at the Clinic having pretty much given up hope, go through one of these structured assessments and reviews and then go on to conceive naturally as a result.
Of course, for some, the consultation may simply confirm that assisted
fertility treatment is the most sensible step forward. In which case we
can arrange for you to see our Specialist Fertility Doctors Mr George
Ndukwe or Dr Carla Rojas to discuss the available alternatives. If you'd
prefer to consider another IVF centre for any reason, then we can refer
you on there for treatment instead. Either way, you'll at least have
the satisfaction of knowing that you've ticked all the boxes and
exhausted all the natural (and easier and cheaper) alternatives first.
