Sperm count

The count is given in millions per millilitre (ml) of ejaculate and should be equal to or more than 15 million per ml (World Health Organisation, 2009) though 60 million per ml is about average. Thr total sperm count should be a minimum of 39 million in the whole ejaculate. The higher the number the better. Cuases of low sperm count include:

hormone imblances * infections * varicocoele * genetic reasons * surgery to the testicles or lower abdomen * chemotherapy/radiotherapy * diabetes or kidney failure * age * obesity * lifestyle * heat exposure * excessive exercise * anabolic steroids * drugs * stress * environmental toxins

However, the good news is that the right changes to your lifestyle and a healthy diet may help to improve sperm count in many situations.
