Healthy Cellular Growth and Integrity of Maternal DNA:

Free radicals, or reactive oxygen species (ROS), are produced as a natural by-product of our metabolism. They play an important role in cellular repair and signalling and the human body has developed its own antioxidant system to deal with them, both from within the body (endogenous) and from the diet (exogenous). However, when this system becomes overwhelmed for various reasons, free radicals can cause damage to normal healthy cells. Increasingly, free radicals are being linked to both egg and sperm damage.

A certain amount of free radical damage is normal. However, this increases with age as our endogenous antioxidant system wears down. It can also age eggs and sperm, sometimes prematurely. Free radicals target the fatty fluid membranes in the cells leaving the DNA damaged and the eggs and sperm no longer able to function properly. Inflammation causes free radical formation that researchers now think may be linked to many problems associated with fertility and pregnancy such as endometriosis, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, auto-immune diseases and unsuccessful IVF cycles.

Vitafem BOOST contains a wide range of extra antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, Selenium and Manganese, as well as especially powerful antioxidants such as Alpha Lipoic Acid, N-Acetyl Cysteine and Resveratrol. Plus a uniquely wide range of natural antioxidant extracts such as Pomegranate, Bilberry, Watercress, Pine Bark and Mixed Berries. All of which can help to protect cells, such as the oocyte (the immature egg in the ovary) and the embryo at critical stages of the reproductive cycle.

Directions For Use:

Take one capsule three times a day with food, ideally for at least three months prior to conception. Should only be taken on a full stomach. Suitable for vegetarians.

Can be taken on its own for those who just want to boost their intake of anti-oxidants, but principally designed for use alongside Vitafem, particularly for women who are experiencing difficulty getting pregnant or who are preparing for IVF.

If under medical supervision, seek guidance from your medical practitioner before using this product.

Good News For Our Clients:

As with any supplementation, we strongly recommend that you continue with all our nutritional products for at least three to four months. As you would expect, it can take several months to bring your body back into optimum nutritional balance, plus a sustained effort from then on to keep it that way.

Many of our clients have told us that they find the process of reordering each month a chore, which we can well understand. In response to this we have introduced an Automatic Reordering Service for all our nutritional range.

If you would like to take advantage of this service, either tick the box, as indicated, when completing your purchase on our 'Shopping' page or, if you prefer, give our sales line a call on 0800.0480.046, and we'll arrange it for you. We'll then send you a bottle of whatever you've ordered to reach you before your existing supply runs out. We'll only charge your credit card for the new delivery when we have despatched it, just as if you had e.mailed or called us yourself. Whenever you want to amend or cancel the order, simply call us, or send an e.mail to customerservice@zitawestproducts.com, and we'll arrange this for you immediately.

Alternatively, you may prefer to buy a few month's supply in one go. We can now offer a 10% reduction (ex p&p) when you buy three or more bottles of Vitafem Boost. If you choose to place your order via the web-site, the system will calculate your discount for you, automatically.

Don't worry if you order a number of products and then decide not to use any of them (if you get pregnant for example). Simply return them to us, unopened, and we will be happy to refund what you paid.

I’ve just decided to try to get pregnant naturally. Do I need to take Vitafem BOOST as well as Vitafem?

Most women who are preparing to have a baby will probably not choose to take Vitafem BOOST as well as Vitafem. However, we would usually recommend that women who are finding it difficult to get pregnant, who have experienced recurrent miscarriage, or who are about to have assisted fertility treatment, should consider investing in the extra antioxidant support that Vitafem BOOST provides.

I've noticed my urine has turned yellow since taking Vitafem Boost. Is this normal?

Yes, the Vitamin B12 in Vitafem Boost can cause some people's urine to turn yellow. If this happens to you, don't worry, it's perfectly natural!

Should I carry on taking Vitafem Boost if I am pregnant?

Once your pregnancy is confirmed it is better to move on to the Vital Essence range which has been especially formulated for your body’s changing needs during each trimester of pregnancy.

What is "RDA" and why are so many of the ingredients in Vitafem higher than 100%?

"RDA" is an abbreviation of "Recommended Daily Allowance." The RDA was devised by the Dept of Health in the UK in 1979 to provide guidance on the intake of a limited number of specific vitamins and minerals that an average adult should have daily in order to avoid a deficiency that may lead to disease or general ill-health. Whereas this was, and remains, a useful benchmark for judging the contribution that any supplement may make to reaching those minimum requirements, it wasn't intended to represent an indication of optimum intake. You will probably have noticed that many supplements, particularly premium priced ones such as our own, contain daily levels that are frequently many times higher than the RDA, sometimes substantially so. This is because the vitamins and minerals concerned have been set at therapeutic levels in an attempt to boost the body's store of the nutrients concerned, often for a particular and limited period of time, the need for which can of course vary depending on factors such as general health, age etc. It is universally recognised that pregnancy, and preparing for pregnancy, for example, benefit from special attention to nutrition on the part of both partners. All of the formulations within the Zita West range are well within the Government's guidelines for what represents the upper safe limit (USL) for long term daily supplementation of any given nutrient.

Can I take Vitafem Boost instead of Vitafem?

NO. We usually recommend that all our clients who are trying to get pregnant consider taking, as a first nutritional step, a good quality multivitamin and mineral supplement, like Vitafem, to help support their everyday diet. Vitafem has been specifically developed to help protect a woman's daily intake of those micro-nutrients that we believe are the most important for all- round pre-conceptual health.  Vitafem Boost has been developed as a companion product to Vitafem for those of our clients who might also benefit from boosting their intake of antioxidants to help further protect their maternal DNA from oxidative stress. Research suggests that oxidative stress may be associated with an increased incidence of sub-fertility, recurrent miscarriage and IVF failure. Which is why we recommend the product specifically for women who are finding it difficult to conceive rather than those who are just about to try. Because it has been designed as a companion product to Vitafem, it does not duplicate many of the important vitamins and minerals that can be found in Vitafem and it isn't suitable, therefore, as a substitute for it.
