A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever have. As we get older, the aging process damages all the cells of the body, including a woman’s eggs. This is due to the impact of unstable molecules called free radicals. It is thought that high levels of free radicals speed up the process of cellular ageing. Over her lifetime, a woman’s eggs suffer progressive damage from free radicals. More and more couples are having babies later in life and may find it harder to conceive than they’d anticipated. Poor egg quality can be a factor in this.
